I booked a stay at Eco Lodge Kolarbyn to experience the Swedish nature I have read about so much and to escape the big city vibes of yet another super efficient Scandinavian city, Stockholm. I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself in for, I do like adventure, but I didn’t know whether I had gone too far with this booking…but as soon as I arrived I realised how magically this little patch of woodland really was. It has so much more than the photos show.
Three hours by train from Stockholm city takes you through lovely countryside towns. You can spot lots of typical red cabin houses and even moose from the train. We were lucky enough to see a moose and a baby from the train!
The Charcoal Hut is more spacious than you think. It is very romantic with a little stone fireplace, lit by candlelight and sheepskin beds. A perfect digital detox environment.
We chopped our own wood to fuel the floating wooden sauna, followed by a dip in the lake. Afterwards we took a woodland walk where we picked wild blueberries, and made pancakes over a fire pit. Could you get a more typical Swedish experience?
